Argentina adhered to the environmental protection measures that ban fishing activities on several species to the south of 60º parallel.
(Télam).- Resolution 174/2012 of the Argentinean Agriculture Secretary, published on May 14 by the Official Bulletin, formalized the Argentinean adhesion to the decisions taken by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources for season 2011/2012, and that applies from past December to November of 2012.
These published environmental measures ban deep fishing of vulnerable marine ecosystems such as marine scrubs, cold water reefs and sponge fields. It also forbids fishing of deep water or Antarctic cod in the exclusion area among other species.
Argentina is a member of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), which aims in preserving the marine living resources of the Southern Ocean.
