Base Artigas de Uruguay en la Antártida - Artigas Station in Antarctica

Uruguay is related to Antarctica since the first expeditions of the Antarctic pioneers.

During the first years of the 19th century, the Montevideo harbor was chosen by many expeditions to get the last supplies before challenging the far southern ocean.

Uruguay has two research stations in the Antarctic Peninsula: Artigas Research Station in the 25 de Mayo island and Elichiribehety Station in Hope Bay.

For the last years, it’s scientific activity has been concentrated in Artigas Station.
